ching-ching's history
refresh // get an apology

ching-ching was brought to the 'Net by moi on November 7, 2003. I felt the need for a change. My old personal website, Hello Kitty Universe, didn't have that feeling of belonging. So I began a new website, a better one.

The name ching-ching comes from my father's "nickname" for me. It's more of a term of endearment. I always thought it was the cutest thing. When I was thinking of a name for my "new" website, it was obvious what the best choice would be.

On my "old" website I kept a neat history of making really ugly pages. I'll quote myself here.

Website Making History/History of HKU

2000-2001 -- This is when I began my journey down the lonely path of webdesign. Of course, I didn't know I was walking down this path. I never thought of the future of my little obsession. And so it began, with Expage. My friend Kayelee had a little website on expage. You know the type, pixel dolls, gaudy animated lines. But I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, second to Sanrio stuff of course. I wanted one too, so I made a little collection of pages called Cara's Dynasty. It did have the gaudy lines and animations but it was a bit... funnier than Kayelee's, in my humble opinion. I even had a 'How to be a pig 101', though I didn't really have any experience in being a pig. This little expage knock-off led me to searching the web, surfing the web and crashing into all sort of addicting things like Neopets. Eventually, after a year or so, I got sick of Expage. I moved onto Tripod.

2001-2002 -- Tripod introduced me to the amazing powers of...basic HTML. Links, images and that sort of thing. However, I still used the Easy-Designer because I didn't know how to start a whole page from scratch. Still, after about half a year, I was sick of Tripod. I don't know why, but I just wanted to start somewhere else. I began to learn HTML because of my Neopet's petpages. I learned the basics and started to keep a neat list of all HTML, CSS and Javascript on my computer for reference. Then I found out about my account on 20m.com (I often sign up for stuff I don't know about until I get something in my email). Thus begins the next year.

2002-2003 I started from scratch then. Hello Kitty Universe was born. I made really ugly pages, but they were page I had made by myself and I was damn proud. Though, as I was searching the web, I saw a lot of really nicely made websites that far-surpassed my own. I began checking out document sources and began to learn 'higher' level HTML. I got books on HTML and Javascript and finally started to use I-frames and DIV. It was the begginning. But I still had really ugly and disorganized layouts and not a lot of content.

2003-2004 I finally began to make 'real' layouts that sorta matched. I try to make things original so my layouts are really weird. However, my content is much better now. Still, it's just the beginning of the school year, so just wait and see ^_~
